Coeliac Disease

Hi,

I’m 22 years old, and just recently found out that I have Coeliac Disease.  Just wondering if anyone knows of any good stores or cafes around the area that sells Gluten Free products??

Thanks!

    Whereabouts are you from?
Safeway sells gluten free rice noodles, I think, and it’s always worth looking in a health food shop.
:) Best of luck! And remember, no gluten means you’ll have to make up for it by eating ice cream!

I have Non Coeliacs Gluten Intolerance which isn’t as serious as your problem but I do have to avoid eating gluten just the same. Safeway do have an area for gluten free products they also sell gluten free sausages and bread,….I have found using gluten free plain,SR,and corn flours etc I can adjust most recipe’s, White Wings custard powder is also gluten free. If you like vegemite there is a product called mighty mite the brand is… THREE 333 THREES AND ITS GLUTEN FREE….. FOUNTAIN SOY SAUCE is also gluten free you will learn to read all the packets for ingrediants as I do.
OTHER GLUTEN FREE PRODUCTS I have discovered are:
    Primo Salami
    Doritos original cornchips
    Papadums
    Smiths Crinkle Cut plain chips
    Freedom Foods crackers and dips
Silly Yaks Products - sausage rolls, pies, shepherds pies, vegie rolls cakes biscuits etc. These products are yummy. If you look up Silly Yaks in the phone book i’m sure they will be able to tell you their closest outlet.
Something I have discovered recently is
Gluten free O.R.G.A.N.I.C. Tannour Bread. OLD TIME BAKERY is the brand name which I found at coles amongst their Mountain bread products its fabulous for making Pizza’s
make sure its the one with pink & brown on the brand, I have tried the blue pack it’s OK but not as good as the pink. As for Lady chaos’s comment about ice cream, you will need to read the labels not all ice creams are Gluten free.
I don’t know what area you are in but if your looking for a retaurant that has beautiful Gluten Free food and also sells Gluten Free products I would have to recommend ENOTECA VINO BAR 920 Lygon St Carlton Nth, my friends took me to this place for my birthday last year. Yummy Deserts too. I’m from Sunbury and we have a fabulous Fish and Chip shop that has Gluten free fish & chips twice a week and they also sell the Silly Yaks Products.
Hope this has been some help to you……

It is good to see that this type of allergy is being accepted in the community these days. With all these suppliers recognizing that there is a market for gluten free products life with not be bland for long.

Have you tried quinoa - a non-mainstream grain that is fabulously tasty and incredibly nutritious. You can get it at most organic or health food shops.
